Away win at Walsham Le Willows keeps Ely 3rd

The Robins travelled to summer road the home of Walsham Le Willows Saturday 15th.
In what has already been a great week for the club with beating Thetford away then reaching the Cambs Invitation Cup final, a win at " The Willows " would be the icing on the cake.
Full of confidence the Robins took the lead in the 7th minute when the Walsham keeper and outfield player messed up a clearance, the ball fell to Toby Lawal to put the Robins in front with his 8th of the campaign.
Ely went 2 up on 45mins when Alex Brown spotted the Walsham keeper out of position and placed a free kick into the unguarded side of the goal for 2-0.
Into the 2nd half and the Willows pulled a goal back as goalie Tyler Key and defender Joe Brannan got mixed up and cleared the ball straight to a home player who slotted the ball back past Tyler and into the net on 59mins.
This was only a temporary reprieve as minutes later Ely were awarded a penalty for a foul in the area, Jack Friend making no mistake with a powerful shot past the keeper taking him to 12 for the season.
Ely were by now controlling the game , a few half chances came and went and the ref blew up to the away supporters delight!!.
Ely now stand 3rd in the league and face Harleston town at home on the 22nd March.
