Robins at the double over Thetford

Robins at the double over Thetford

Ely City Football Club10 Mar - 16:45

Ely continue their good form against the promotion hopefuls

The Robins travelled to Mundford road Saturday, home of Thetford Town fc.
Having beaten town a few weeks ago at the Demcom Stadium the Robins faithful must have been expecting a reaction from the home side.
On paper this is one of the Robins hardest away games of the season vs a usually strong town side who are always in the promotion mix.
However it was the Robins that went into the game seemingly wanting the win more,
backed by a vocal away support the Robins controlled the opening 45mins.
Town missed a easy chance to score on the half hour but fluffed their lines, the Robins made them rue their miss just 3 miniutes laterwhen Alex kerr slotted home much to the delight of travelleling contingent.
It got worse for the home side after 44 minutes when Alex Brown's corner flew straight into the net giving home keeper no chance.
Ht 0-2
Everyone involved with the Robins must have been thinking that town would come out and set upon Ely, this didn't happen and the Robins easily weathered everything the home side could muster.
Town fans cheered ironically nearly everytime their team produced a chance.
However towards the end town should have scored during a big goalmouth scramble.
Ely produced three good chances to make the result more comfortable but it remained 2-0 to Ely at the refs whistle.
A brilliant controlled performance by the Robins which moved them back to 3rd place in the eastern counties league Premier division. Also great to see young Jevan Cook back playing after a injury layoff.
Ely City Starting team- Key, Brannan, Kerr, Jenkins (C), Hamer, Partridge, Lawal, Brown, Friend, Tagg and Rogers.
