Guy Habbin made two changes from last weeks impressive display against Kirkley and Pakefield, the returning Tyler Key took is place in the Ely nets after completing his move from Deeping midweek. Aaron Hamer was replaced by the returning Baba Camara after picking up an injury and Dom Hunt remained on the bench nursing a tight groin last time out.
The game was always going to be a cagey affair, City over the years coming short in previous meeting over the year at the ‘Homestyle UK Windows’ stadium. Jack Friend was lively and linked up well with Toby Lawal early on, but Woodbridge remained tight at the back giving little away in the opening stages.
At the other end, Key was called into action to make a couple of routine stops as Ely’s repelled any meaningful attack on their goal.
Clear cut chances were at a minimum as the game remained goalless at halftime.
Ely started the second half brighter and FRIEND opened the scoring for Reds on the hour mark with a crisp finish.
That lead lasted less than 10 minutes, as Woodbridge’s Liam ABLITT scored a tremendous free kick from 30 yards out, bending the ball beyond Key and into the top corner of the goal.
Both teams made changes as chances were limited and although Ely were looking to nick something, both teams seemed to settle with a point.
