They will compete in the Eastern Junior Alliance league which is the South East Of England’s leading youth development football league, The Eastern Junior Alliance is the stepping stone between the academy levels of the professional ranks and the regular youth level in all counties. The team as mentioned come from local club Witchford Colts and in the last 2 years they have won the league twice, at Cambridgeshire Colts Under 13 &Under 14 level and completed the treble last year by winning the County Cup and League Cup. Through the last two seasons they have not lost a game and a number of the players have at stages be involved with Professional Clubs so the future is looking bright for Ely City.
Commenting on the formation, Ely City's director of football Andrew Lee stated ‘that this is just another part of the clubs long plan strategy to put in place a firm pathway for any youngster who joins Ely City Crusaders from the age of five that at different level and stages we will encourage the growth and development of them to senior football. Every child will have the option to challenge themselves to aim for the highest level in football that they can achieve while being a member of Ely City Football Club and will be given the the support to do’.
‘Only Step 5 senior clubs at National Level can apply to join the Eastern Junior Alliance so no local clubs are able to join. With the reintroduction of the Under 18 side last season this is a natural step that we have been looking to take’.
