Goals from Alex Brown and Josh Townsend secure Robins their second win from opening five games.

The first half was a scrappy affair with neither Harry Reynolds or Swaffham’s goalkeeper having to make a save.

Ryan Harnwell looked like he had won Ely a penalty after getting pushed in the box with fifteen minutes on the clock but it wasn’t enough for the referee to blow his whistle and point to the spot.

Ely started the second half with the upper hand and had two really good opportunities to open the scoring before they eventually did.

New signing Tommy Robinson was instrumental in getting Ely on the front foot from midfield- passing the ball into dangerous areas and creating chances for the likes of Young and Harnwell.

The first chance came when Jamie Alsop played the ball in beautifully from a free kick out wide into the box. The ball was met by a powerful header from Tom Williams but instead of finding the back of the net, the ball went just over the top of the cross bar.

The second chance came when a cross field pass bounced in front of Josh Townsend- on the edge of the box- but it didn’t quite fall for the number 8 and he wasn’t able to get a shot away.

Ely opened the scoring around twenty minutes in to the second half, when left full back Alex Brown picked the ball up out wide and drove into the box. He did really well to drill the ball into the far bottom corner of the goal and give the hosts the lead.

Ten minutes or so later it got even better for the Robins when a cleverly worked free kick from Robinson was scrambled past the goalkeeper by Josh Townsend.

The final incident of note in the game came when Swaffham’s goalkeeper was sent off for fouling Ryan Harnwell on the edge of the box and without a sub goalkeeper it was up to one of their outfield players to don the gloves.
